Transforming an insular complex
into a vibrant workplace campus
Project?
Built by Italian Modernist architect Gio Ponti in the 1960's, the former Allianz Headquarter consists of a series of three buildings of different characteristics, arranged around a courtyard. Located in the historic center of Milan, the site benefits from active street frontages and great transport connections, such as the imminent opening of a new metro line M4.
The proposal aims at reconnecting the courtyard with the City, by increasing its porosity through the reopening and creation of large portals at street level. The original courtyard space has been redesigned as a continuous landscape topography that connects all parts of the complex : two Cortili Milanesi with different atmospheres (active and quieter).
With its vibrant split-level ground floor offering a diversity of activities (retail, auditorium, foodcourt, lounge and Gio Ponti Foundation...), its flexible workspaces connected by multi-level atria, and its lively rooftops overlooking the city, Gio Ponti's composition becomes a new hive of activity in Milan's historic center.
