Project?
Datum Foundation has been raising funds to build a secondary school in Chisala. The aim is to provide an opportunity for the most able children from Chisala and ten other local villages to receive a secondary education. The project has the support of the Malawi Education department.
All buildings were constructed with the help of local communities to construct locally hand-made bricks and roofs formed with timber frames and finished with metal sheet roofing. The building orientation and large windows will keep the classrooms cool. The school should be complete and ready for the official opening in September 2016.
Responsibilities?
The school has been designed to be built quickly, with local materials by local builders.
I have designed the masterplan in compounds with the guidelines of the chief architect, Dean Buchanan. Chisala secondary school counts classrooms, workshops, administration offices, teachers and pupils accomodations, water and power towers, organised in compounds. I have been responsible for all the drawings, from the masterplan to the construction details.
