A superstructure made of a serie of concrete arches that generates sequences of spaces.
Project?

The introduction of a longitudinal element enables the site to clearly set off from the Mythenquai road and proposes a sharp lake frontage.

The building is a path in itself as the pedestrians would need to walk through it in order to get to either sides of the lake shore :

a promenade architecturale that doesn't follow the lake line so as to experience a situation that is different than a simple walk along the water.

The design guideline relies in the idea to clearly differenciate the circulations (public and working) while interlacing the spaces and thus, the programs. The visitors would be part of the boat repair process without disturbing the workers.

The building is perceived as a superstructure made of a serie of concrete arches that generates  sequences of spaces. The idea of powerful space is spread throughout the volume as people apprehend it.

The visitors promenade throughout the building goes up and around the workshops which are then exposed to the public‘s eyes, ending in a gallery overlooking the the shipyard, the main remaining  building on the site. The outdoors public circulation space is the spine of the project from both structural and constructive points of view.

A higher attention is given to the mixed public and working lake side part of the project as the west facing volumes are back-of-house functions which are meant to be built low-tech. Concrete is used as the main building material throughout the proposal, the Superstructure as well as the slabs, ceilings and floors are made of in-situ cast concrete of fine finishing. The partitions which are perpendicular to the primary structure are made of timber, so as to re-use the industrial language brought by the remaining shipyard : structure and filling.
